In 2010 I was asked by an old friend to help her build or locate a boat to be used as a platform for a purposed airline diving excursion. Although my partner and I are semi retired we still have the molds for 34’ and 52’ rigid inflatable boats (trade name SCARIB) we built for dive and snorkel excursion operators in Hawaii and the Caribbean in the 1990-2000 period. After consulting with our naval architect and fiberglass contractor it was decided to build a dedicated craft. Janice was the executive assistant and virtual assistant to the founder of the excursion concept. I had the pleasure of working closely with her on the development of the company. With her engineering background she was a tremendous asset to the enterprise in sourcing equipment for the operation. She built the financial spreadsheets that demonstrated the profitability of the operation. She was able to locate and decipher the legal and tax regulations for operating in Honduras and negotiated with the local marine officials. Janice communicated with the Cruise Lines operating in Roatan (an island off the coast of Honduras) to get accurate passenger counts (2 mil per year) and negotiate the Cruise Line royalty for selling the excursion. Janice found and arranged for insurance that covered the operation and the Cruise Lines requirements. This was no small task since the insurance companies required the professional divers who accompany the excursion participants and the operation be certified by an International dive organization and this excursion was a new concept and had no applicable certifying organization. Janice wrote much of and produced the business plan for the Corporation. I have recounted all these divergent tasks Janice preformed to demonstrate her versatility and overall business experience.
